What is your business, profession or role in the community?
Rose City is one of the nation’s first Socially Responsible mortgage brokers supporting community, diversity, sustainability and ….dogs.
We believe that to truly be a member of a community, you need to give back in some way.
In addition to volunteering with various groups, we donate $100 of our $595 fee to one of the following non-profit organizations each time a loan closes. Please follow the links to more information about the individual non-profit.
Growing Gardens - Growing Gardens brings organic food gardening to the doorsteps of thousands of limited-income families and individuals across Portland. Home gardeners in their program receive garden beds or containers at home and 3 years of meaningful support.
Friends of Trees - Friends of Trees inspires community stewardship of our urban forest by bringing people in the Portland area together to plant and care for city trees and urban natural areas. Since 1989, Friends of Trees has planted more than $340,000 trees and shrubs in the Portland-Vancouver area. This year more than 2,000 volunteers will plant nearly 23,000 trees and native plants.
Cascade AIDS Project - CAP helps nearly 2,000 people with HIV in Oregon and Southwest Washington yearly. They provide housing and assistance programs, legal services, education and the Oregon AIDS Hotline.
Dove Lewis - Dove Lewis is a 24 hour emergency and ICU animal hospital. They also provide a blood bank, animal assisted therapy and education, pet loss support, and stray animal and wildlife care.
Oregon Food Bank - Oregon Food Bank distributes food donated throughout a statewide network of more than 870 nonprofit, hunger relief agencies serving Oregon and Clark County, Washington. The organization works to eliminate the root causes of hunger through education and advocacy.
Three Rivers Land Conservancy - Three Rivers is a non-profit whose mission is to preserve the natural areas in the Clackamas, Tualatin and Willamette River watershed. They also connect these natural areas by trails. They have protected over 360 local acres so far.
The Raphael House of Portland - Raphael house provides shelter for more than 500 women and children each year. They also provide a 24-hour crisis line, emergency shelter and long-term transitional housing. Eighty-two percent of women who leave Raphael House do not return to their abuser.
The Sierra Club - The Sierra Club’s members are more than 750,000 of your friends and neighbors. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet. The Club is America’s oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.
In addition to the above organizations in 2005 we have also donated to: French Prairie Progress Team, Oya No Kai, Giving to Homeless, Inside Out, Mercy Corp, McKenzie River Gathering, Bicycle Transportation Alliance, German American School, Breast Cancer Awareness, Rain Forest Relief, National MS Society, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, National Reproductive Options, Basic Rights Oregon, American Lung Association, Amazon Dragons, Bridlemile Foundation, City Repair Project, Planned Parenthood, American Red Cross, Cat Adoption Team
How do you define or represent being "green"?
At Rose City we recognize that business plays a powerful role in our society. Businesses can either enhance community or destroy it. We strive to have a positive impact on our world and to share our prosperity with those around us.
Rose City Mortgage is an Upstream company. We support other businesses whose products and services work with our vision for a sustainable future.
We believe companies should add to the local economy, not just the share holders pockets.
We believe our company can do its part to have a minimal impact on the environment
We treat people and all other living things with respect
We value relationships over profit
We conserve our natural resources
With that in mind, at Rose City Mortgage:
We buy as much organic, green and recycled as possible
We recycle everything
We buy from local vendors
We operate our business with as little negative impact on the world as possible.
We support other businesses that operate with integrity
We treat our employees, clients and associates with respect.

About Me:
A shortage of free time doesn't stop Kelley Smith from living life to the fullest. In fact, Kelley has learned to master the skill of doing multiple things at once. She's a hard-working professional by day, an incredibly dedicated (and proud!) Mom to two kids always, and she still makes time to see the rest of her family, including five siblings (four sisters and one brother)all of whom live in the Portland area.
Kelley's life might sound like a juggling act, but she puts effort into keeping a healthy balance. She was even inspired to start a networking group for working parents like herself. It's called Working Professionals Playdate, and it's a way for parents and kids to get together after work hours and on the weekends to relax and enjoy quality time together. The parents appreciate having some grown-up conversations and social time, and the kids love it, too. For Kelley, seeing the group flourish has been extremely satisfying.
Being a natural go-getter has been a boon for Kelley's professional life. She came to Rose City Mortgage with over a decade of experience in the industry. Early in her career, she worked as a receptionist, and it wasn't long before she was promoted to be an assistant for a loan officer. That job taught her about every aspect of the business, so making the leap to being a loan officer was a natural next step.
When Kelley gets playtime, she enjoys taking her daughters to their favorite hangout: the Oregon Zoo. And in the summertime, there are plenty of trips to the beach. In fact, just about anything outdoors will do. The most exciting play date of all, however, will be a family trip to a Disney destination. Kelley says, "The girls and I would like to go on a Disney Cruise for a week!"
Call Kelley at 503-768-4248 or send an e-mail to kelley@rosecitymtg.com.
